Family History

One of the nicest areas in the Library is the Family History section on the 2nd Floor. As well as lending and reference collections on genealogy and family history, we have a good range of electronic indexes and records that are very useful for those exploring their own family tree.

Our collection of local electoral rolls starts from 1991.

Whether you are just atarting your re search or have years of experience already, the specialised magazines will be of grreat interest.

The Rotorua branch of the NZ Society of Genealogists meets at the Library every month. They post details of their activities on the notice board. Members of this group love to share their knowledge. The Library staff can help you to get going and will show you how to use the electronic resources. And of course if you start to delve into your ancestry, you are probably going to find yourself spending a bit of time using old newspapers. The Rotorua papers have not been digitised yet, but we do have microfilm copies of the older papers.
