I'm joining a bunch of librarians around the world who blog every day in June. For me, that will mean every working day. And I have missed the start of the month already.
Long weekends are such a treat. I'd love to be able to bank enough hours to have a 3 day weekend every month.
The Library is part of Council's Lean programme and I recently attended two days training called Lean Essentials. We covered the basics of Kaizen and some of the commonly-used tools that can be used to better understand and address customer value. How much of what we do creates value for the customer? What can we do to improve our efficiencies and direct more of our resources into enhancing the patron experience? We have started with some 5-S time. So Friday afternoons we take a half hour out to look at an area in our workplace and do a sort, shine, and straighten. A place for everything and everything in its place.
